ISSA Message from the President - November 2015Posted on November 11, 2015
We just finished the ISSA Annual meeting last Friday during the Cressy Championships sponsored by Laser Performance being held at Old Dominion University. We had all 7 of our districts represented which is very important as we set various goals for our future. We have stability with our Board members with strong continuity each year as we move forward. This year we awarded Rob Hurd the Geoff Spranger Award recognizing extraordinary dedication and selflessness, and Bill Campbell and Mike Segerblom with the President’s Award for exception service to ISSA. Congratulations to all 3 well deserving recipients.
As I continue to report, ISSA continues to grow with 502 registered schools and 124 regattas being held over the first 9 weeks this fall. An average of 14 regattas per weekend is absolutely fantastic. We certainly appreciate all the help we get from Yacht Clubs, Community Sailing Centers, Sea Scout Bases and College Sailing programs.
Just to name a few events in the month of November, we are hosting various District Fall Championships, a National keelboat invitational held at St. Petersburg, Florida, the ISSA Great Oaks Regatta held at Southern Yacht, the Atlantic Coast Championships sponsored by The Virginia Sailing Foundation being held at Norfolk Yacht Club, as well as an intersectional regatta held at the College of Charleston which will be the host of our 2016 Mallory Championship. With all this activity ISSA is surpassing one of our main goals which is to have fun and provide an opportunity for all levels of high school sailors to enjoy sailing.
At the Annual meeting, the Board discussed the opportunity to move forward with an online registration system which is greatly needed with the large number of events being held. This online program will tie into our existing school registration and scoring program.
I would like to thank everyone for their help and support of High School Sailing.
