The ISSA Fall 2016 Cressy Championships were held in Galveston, Texas at the Sea Scout Base Galveston on October 29-30, 2016. Sailing took place in Offatts Bayou just a short distance off the docks for both the Radial and Full Rig fleets. Laser Performance provided 36 beautiful Ice Blue new Lasers for the regatta!
Saturday’s races began at 10:00 am, with temperatures in the high 70’s climbing to the mid 80’s and sunny skies. The wind ranged from approx. 10 - 14 mph then dropped back to about 10 mph for the late afternoon. The viewing from the docks was great with the downwind mark was only 20 yards away from the spectators.
The Cressy Championships is run in 2 fleets, the Laser Full Rig and the Laser Radial. Each fleet completed 12 races on Saturday. At the end of the day, The Radial Fleet was led by Sophia Reineke of St Thomas Aquinas, followed by Charlotte Rose from Westside HS and 3rd Point Loma’s Marcus Huttunen. The Full Rig Fleet the standing were Henry Marshal of BB&N, 2nd was Max Guerriero of Portsmouth Abbey and in 3rd Episcopal HS’s (Thomas) Ford McCann.
A regatta dinner Saturday evening was hosted by Texas A & M University at Galveston for the competitors at the Sea Scout Base.
Sunday was again sunny with temps in high 70’s to mid-80’s and the wind ranging from approx. 10- 14 mph for the day. 6 more races were run for both fleets to complete the regatta.
The final standings for the Radial Fleet had a few changes from Saturday with Sophia Reineke of St Thomas Aquinas – SAISA winning the regatta, in 2nd place was Lucas Pierce of Santa Barbara – PCISA, followed in 3rd by Charlotte Rose from Westside HS – SEISA.
The final standings for the Full Rig Fleet remained unchanged with Henry Marshal of BB&N - NESSA, 2nd was Max Guerriero of Portsmouth Abbey - NESSA and in 3rd Episcopal HS’s (Thomas) Ford McCann – SEISA.
